Known for its bold claim of being “the beer that made Milwaukee jealous,” Billings Brewing Co. lit up the skyline in 1910 with a huge electric rooftop sign. The display featured 920 white and yellow bulbs that animated a bottle pouring beer into a glass—an unmistakable landmark for the city. During Prohibition, the brewery shifted to soda, returning to beer in 1933 before closing in 1951. Both the building and its famous sign were removed in 1959.
