At the turn of the century, when Billings was still finding its footing, Billings Brewing Company stood as a point of pride along Montana Avenue. Founded in 1899 at 24th and Montana, the brewery filled the neighborhood with the warm, familiar scent of malt and hops. Locals gathered over Bock, Bohemian, Old Fashion, and Pilsener beers, while travelers arriving by rail found a cold drink and a sense of welcome waiting for them. The glowing sign that read “Drink Old Fashion Beer” became a landmark, lighting up the street and the spirit of a growing city.
Though brewing ended decades ago, the memory of Billings Brewing Company still lingers in the stories passed down and in the idea that a hometown beer can bring people together. It remains a reminder of a time when community was built one glass at a time.
