Welcome to The Western Heritage Center. Legend has it that after the library’s conversion into a museum, strange occurrences began to unfold. Staff and visitors have reported feeling a heavy, eerie presence, especially in the upper floors. Doors are said to open and close on their own, and books sometimes fall off shelves, as if unseen hands are at play. At night, the air is thick with an unsettling quiet, broken only by unexplained footsteps echoing through the empty halls.

One of the most persistent stories involves the ghost of a former librarian. Known to be strict and set in her ways, she allegedly still roams the halls, watching over the building she loved. Many believe she’s the cause of cold spots and flickering lights.

Some visitors have even claimed to see a shadowy figure in old-fashioned attire standing by the windows, gazing out over downtown Billings. The haunted past of the Western Heritage Center adds a spine-tingling layer to its historical charm, leaving those who walk its halls wondering if they’re truly alone.
